A weapon is not just merely a thing that you use to destroy or eliminate an opponent. Its use depends on the intentions of the one having it in possession. There are weapons that are lethal and there are those that are intended to immobilize an opponent and not necessarily to harm. Although a weapon is usually associated with violence, it is actually a tool that maintains the balance and prevents more violence from happening. It all actually depends on who is handling the weapon. Weapons can also be entertaining, although it is important to exercise caution. There are toys that are also considered as weapons and they are less lethal but still dangerous like the rubber band weapons.

Primarily the rubber band weapons are for entertainment purposes or other designs are being used for sports. The first variation would be the rubber band gun, these things resemble a gun and the ammunition is a rubber band. Its mechanism is actually les sophisticated than most of the toy guns you would see in the market. If you are fascinated with this kind of toy, there are hobby shops where these toys are available, and they usually cost less due to the simplicity of their mechanism, and the kind of materials used to make them. Another type of weapon is the sling-shot; this is actually something that would hurt much. It has an object where a rubber band’s ends are separately tied to the object, it has a projectile usually a marble or similar rounded objects. You can even use stones that are small and light enough to be its projectile. This kind of weapon has a simple mechanism and is inexpensive, however it could be deadly, it is highly advised that children are not to have this within their possession as it may cause injury or even death.

You can buy rubber band weapons in any hobby store or where sporting goods are being sold. You may also have the option in having these things purchased online. All you have to do is point click and make a choice.

Heavy duty rubber bands are materials or by products made out of rubber tree. They are similar to materials that make tires. A difference is the intended purpose of their use and the way that they are designed. Heavy duty rubber bands are elastic materials that are useful to most industries that are used to secure and hold covers like tarpaulins enclosing palatalized goods.

The appearance of a heavy duty rubber bands are most likely the same as that of the ordinary rubber band, only it’s bigger. They may also come in different sizes depending on the dimensions of the enclosure that you require. Many industries in manufacturing are making use of these rubber bands, this is very vital in securing goods particularly when transporting them from one place to another. Sensitive goods require covering, like beverages for instance. Since they are considered as food it is important that while transporting them in any place, these goods should not be exposed to direct sunlight or rain.

And the protection that is provided is the tarpaulin or similar material and is secured by heavy duty rubber bands. You can find these being sold to hardware stores, but if you would like to make specific purchase that will fill in your need there are online manufacturers. And these companies are producers of these heavy duty materials. There is a lot of them you could choose from and they usually offer prices that are reasonable. Also you may want to check regarding their shipping details, at most it is for free depending on the package being offered.

You may also want to check on their warranty and make certain that it is also favorable on your part. The products that they sell may be durable but the point is you need to protect yourself from instances where you may require returning their products for defects. You should also be very vigilant about things of this concern. The most convenient way of purchasing is still online all you have to do is make the right choice that would fit your need.

If you’ve heard of the rubber band heat engine and always wondered how it works, you are surely not alone. Given its status as little more than a novelty item used for demonstrating the first law of thermodynamics, the engine itself has no real relevance outside of academic circles. Still, it is sometimes useful for even laypeople to have a better understanding of the way in which energy can be converted from one form to another, achieving effective work in the process. Since heat is one of the most abundant forms of energy on the planet, something as simple as a rubber band engine has much to teach us about the way in which our world operates.

The engine itself makes effective use of thermodynamics’ first law, which has to do with the conservation of energy. In effect, it is the first law that tells us that heat is, in fact, energy. It is, however, a form of energy that has no real order to it, which means that we must convert it to other more useful and ordered forms of energy if it is to be of benefit to us in any way other than providing us with warmth on a cold day. This conversion of energy from one form to another is more commonly referred to by scientists as work.

Most people are unaware of the rubber band’s potential for converting heat into energy. Rubber is a strange compound in this regard. Most objects and materials find themselves expanding when they encounter heat – this includes wood, metal, and almost every other substance. The atoms begin to dance in a supercharged, hyper-excited fashion, and the next thing you know the distance between the atoms grows, thus expanding the object itself. Rubber, on the other hand, actually contracts when confronted with heat. A rubber band heat engine makes use of this fact to transfer heat energy from the band in such a way that the band can be used to do work.

These types of heat engine always revolve around the rubber band being attached to some sort of object and a series of gears. When the heat is applied to the band, it contracts, and thus lifts the object to which it is attached. While this is a clear and easy to understand example of the first law of thermodynamics in action, it is limited in its practical applications due to the effects of thermodynamics’ second law. That law basically says that even though you can convert mechanical energy to heat, the opposite is not entirely true. The result is that every attempt to convert heat into usable, efficient energy invariably results in a waste of the basic heat unit.

So, is there a real use for the rubber band heat engine? Absolutely! It is an important tool for teaching others about the principles of energy. Whether you have children or are an educator, obtaining a basic rubber band engine of this kind can be a simple way to get the children in your care engaged in thinking about some of these important energy issues.

Most women have tried just about every type of elastic product known to humankind in their quest to shape and control their hairstyles. Hair rubber bands take a variety of forms, but all have one thing in common: they are used to hold portions of hair in place or separate one volume of hair from another. Given the importance of maintaining healthy hair, and the tendency of some rubber bands to pull at or otherwise damage the hair during removal, it is important for you to understand which types of these bands are best for your particular hair needs.

Types of hair bands

In general, there are really only two basic types of elastic hair bands. The first is the common rubber band that you can find in small packages in the store or even on your daily newspaper. The second is the more elaborate elastic rubber band that often comes with balls or other decorations attached to them. Both types have their place in your arsenal of hair care products, though you have to be careful and know which ones should be used under what circumstances.

Advantages of each type

The smaller hair rubber bands have the advantage of being more useful for tying off the ends of braids, pigtails, and other hair divisions, without being so bulky that they draw too much attention to themselves. Even bands with a metal sleeve can be useful in this regard. Larger rubber bands – usually six inches long or more – are generally thicker and thus more appropriately used at the base of large ponytails. Many of these larger bands are actually encased in a light fabric that helps to protect your hair from becoming entangled within the folds of the band.

Disadvantages as well

There are, of course, some disadvantages to each type – though these disadvantages are easy to avoid if you use the right kind of band. To begin with, the smaller rubber bands should not be used to secure pony tails or large braids at the base. The reason for this is quite simple: it is far too easy for your hair to become tangled up in the rubber band, making it difficult to remove the band without pulling out large swaths of hair with it. Anyone who has ever tried this knows that about the only way to save your hair is to simply cut the rubber band in two! Bands with metal sleeves – large or small – are also poor choices for this purpose, and for exactly the same reason. In contrast, larger rubber bands are inefficient at the ends of the hair, since their size and bulk means that they generally have to be wrapped dozens of time around the hair before they are tight.

Hair rubber bands can be your best friends when it comes to styling your hair, provided that you understand which ones work best for you. There are many different styles to choose from, so do your homework wisely before committing to and one type. Trial and error is usually the best teacher in this regard. Finally, don’t limit yourself to the hair bands you see on the shelves of your local retail stores. After all, there is an almost endless variety of rubber bands for hair available at many online web sites.

It is always interesting to listen to people debate the relative merit of various natural occurrences or human achievements. There is just something in the human spirit that seeks to know what the best of this or the worst of that might be, and the interest in record-breaking feats remains as strong as ever. While some of these feats might seem more relevant to life than others, even the most seemingly trivial accomplishment can often draw widespread attention. Such has been the case in recent years when it comes to determining the largest rubber band chain in the world.

Varying perspectives

Of course, the reality of such records is that they can become so nuanced in detail that they remain open to continued argument and debate. In the case of rubber band chains, these nuances exist in the form of such questions as whether the chain was formed by a single individual or as part of a group effort. Thanks to Guinness World Records – the group that has been verifying and tracking such concerns for fifty-five straight years – we are able to know the answer to both questions.

By a group

The largest rubber band chain created by a group effort is the result of the work of an assemblage of elementary school children from the Gettysburg school in Clovis, California. They occupied themselves over a period of time with the task of tying together hundreds of thousands of rubber bands as part of their quest to achieve world-record status. After measuring the resulting chain, they reported to Guinness a length that was in excess of nineteen miles long. Guinness verified the results, and the record has thus far remained unbroken.

Solo efforts

As impressive as that record is, however, it almost pales in comparison to the efforts of one single girl in Chesterfield Township, Michigan. In early 2010, Allison Coach revealed her record-setting chain of more than twenty thousand rubber bands which have a total connected length of nearly seven thousand feet – or one and a third miles long. Coach, only eleven years old, had intentionally set out to break the previous record of five thousand one hundred and seventy feet because she thought it would be a fun thing to do. Guinness has confirmed her claims, and recognized her as having set a new world record. How long it will remain so, nobody can say.

Chasing records

There have been, since both records were set, many claims circulating the internet from individuals and groups who say that they have broken one or both of these records and now have the largest rubber band chain in the world. Without the recognized authority of Guinness World Records verifying their claims, however, it is safe to say that these boasts are just that – boasts. It is all but certain that were anyone to actually achieve their goal of surpassing either of these efforts, Guinness would be contacted and the results would be publicly verified for the entire world to see. Until that time, the records will continue to be held by these schoolchildren.

Rubber arm bands are being worn just about everywhere these days, and for just about any reason. Once relegated only to the wrists of people promoting various causes and interest groups, these bands are now an accepted part of everyday life and can carry almost any meaning – or no meaning at all. If you have wondered what all of the fuss is about, and what the reasons for wearing these bands could possibly be, you have come to the right place.

What are these bands?

These arm bands are generally made of clean, safe silicon that can be manufactured in any color or size, and with practically any design or message embossed upon them. Though the most common types of bands remain those worn around the wrist, you can now find them in sizes suitable for wearing around the upper arm and ankle as well. The decorative colors offer a full spectrum of choices for almost any occasion or cause, making them a popular alternative to traditional leather and metal bands that have been worn in the past.

Why would you wear them?

Rather than ask why you would wear them, the more relevant question might be why wouldn’t you? Almost everyone has a cause or message near and dear to their heart, and these rubber arm bands are one of the easiest ad least controversial ways to promote your ideas and ideals. If you are an advocate for breast cancer research, a pink arm band lets the world know where your heart is without the need for you to walk around espousing your cause. Other colors and designs convey different messages. In addition, you can have custom made bands designed to express your support for almost any idea you can conceive.

Are they safe?

These rubber arm bands are safe – studies of silicon used for these purposes find it to be completely harmless. Of course, whenever you are dealing with elastic material, there is always the possibility of constriction that cuts off or limits the flow of blood to any given limb. This can be a concern with bands that are to be worn on the upper arm – when hunting or cycling, for example – so be certain to use bands that are large enough to fit comfortably around that area. In general, however, there are no real concerns about the safety of these rubber bands.

Is it just a trend?

Of course, you may be one of those people who want to avoid being seen as merely “trendy” or caught up in the latest fad. You can rest assured that rubber arm bands are not something that are going to disappear any time soon. Since becoming an acceptable and popular way for people everywhere to celebrate and promote their personal causes, these bands have only grown in usage and familiarity. So, the next time you and your friends feel strongly about a cause or idea, you can feel comfortable choosing to wear rubber message bands that let the world know exactly how you feel.

Most of us remember the simple pleasure we derived as children from launching a rubber band from our hands. There were a variety of ways for us to achieve the effect, from the simple act of draping one end of the band over the edge of our index finger and pointing it our target while pulling back on the other end with the of-hand to a more complex looping style that turned one hand into the non-lethal equivalent of a pistol. Like most things in life, the rubber band launcher has become ever more complex down through the years, and now includes a number of styles available for sale at retail outlets and hobby shops. If you want to try one of these more modern launchers, however, there is no need to buy one since you can make your own with little effort.

What you’ll need

The goal here is to make a rubber band launcher that resembles those you can find in the stores. That means that it will be in the form of a pistol, which is the most popular style of launcher sold today. To accomplish your goal of building a pistol-shaped launcher, you will need several different things. First of all, you will need two wooden blocks. These can be any size and shape you would like – either simple, square blocks or even blocks that you carve in a more elaborate style. In addition, you should have a hammer and nails, felt and glue, sandpaper, and a chisel.

Working the wood

The first step is to connect the two blocks of wood together by nailing them in the shape of a pistol. Be sure to use enough nails to ensure that the two pieces do not move against one another when you are holding the gun. Feel free to whittle or carve the handle end of your launcher to give it more of a pistol-grip feel if you s desire. You can also retool the barrel top so that the underside of the barrel is round. Alternatively, you can simply leave both parts square. Wrap the handle with your felt, and use glue to fasten it to the wood. This will prevent you from getting splinters when holding your rubber band launcher.

On the barrel of your pistol, use your chisel to dig out a groove along the length of the gun. This small trench should be wide enough for the rubber band to lie in. Be sure to sand the surface of the barrel and groove so that it is completely smooth with no jutting pieces of wood or splinter. Even the smallest splinter can rip through your rubber band.

Testing the gun

Once these steps are complete, you should be ready to fire your rubber band launcher. To prep the band for firing, simply insert the rubber band into the groove, and use your off hand to pull on the end closest to you until the band is stretched and ready for firing. Release it and watch it fly!

There is always stuff lying around your house that you feel you will never use again. That stuff starts to pile up and you end up with throwing away all the unwanted stuff. Ever wondered of making use of any of the stuff you think is trash?? Well rubber bands is one which you can make use of in many things. Instead of throwing them away use the thick rubber bands to get the most out of it. Here are some ways in which you can use them:

You can make use of the thick rubber band in your kitchen. While cooking, baking or frying how many times has the fork or spoon fallen and created a mess? Now you can avoid it simply it by putting the rubber band on the silver ware just about once inch from the top. This exercise will keep the spoon or fork from falling and creating a mess in the kitchen.

Rubber bands can also be used as grip. Instead of spending money on buying grips from the store get a thick rubber band and take off bottle caps and tops. You can also wrap the rubber band around the jar and it will help you contain what’s inside even if the cap is loose. Rubber bands can be of great help if you have young kids and want to keep them from opening kitchen or bathroom cabinets that contain dangerous materials. Young children like to explore a lot so wrap the rubber bands around the knobs of the cabinets very tightly so that no one is able to open it without removing the rubber bands.

Rubber bands can help you to keep your older kids busy for hours. They can make rubber band balls, rubber band jewelry and even rubber band bracelets. Making rubber band bracelets is easy. Select the outfit you will be wearing. Use a thick rubber band as your base and cut the rest of the bands to create a color scheme. One slit would be enough to make the rubber band a long string. Slide the cut rubber band strings through the base rubber band and tie in knots. You can cut off the ends if they are too long. If you don’t like knots you can make bows; it only needs to go across the top of your wrist. Your rubber band bracelet is ready and you can wear it proudly.

Another amazing use of a thick rubber band is in your car when you want to keep receipts and other papers. Use a rubber band to old them together. Rubber bands can also be used when in summer you want to drink cans but are hard to grip on. Wrap the rubber band around the can a couple of times and you will have the perfect grip.

These are some amazing ways you can bring to use the unwanted stuff like rubber bands in your house. They can help you a great deal with a lot of things.

Making a rubber band propeller car is one of the simplest ways by which you can make a car at home. The process is a simple one and usually takes up to an hour. If you want your car to move faster then you can either use a longer rubber band or change the size of the wheel. Different combinations can affect the speed of the car. The car moves due to the energy that is stored by wrapping the band round the axle and as it unwraps it changes into energy.

Here is how you can make a rubber band propeller car. Take a cardboard and snick it right in the centre. The snick should be approximately 2 inches wide and 1.5 inches deep. Now throw the piece that you cut. Now you need to make the axle and for that you will need a wooden skewer. Place the skewer near the outer edge of the snick and make sure it is equally distributed on either side of the cardboard or else the car will drive crooked. Sometimes you will need to rotate the skewer manually so that the opening widens. Alter the axle a bit. In the middle of snick wrap a small piece of tape so that the rubber band gets hold of it. To ensure that the rubber band gets hold of the snick you can twist the tape that is sticking up.

Now comes the part of assembling the wheels of the car. For this exercise you will need a washer and two CDs. Place and hold the washer in the middle of the CD’s center hole. Move this CD with the washer attached on one side of the cardboard onto the skewer. Leave ample of room between the CD and the cardboard. Stick the washer, CD and skewer. For this you can use anything or any type of glue but make sure that the things are stuck firmly. Check and see if the wheel and axle spins together, If so repeat the same process for the second wheel and if not then you need to stick the three things firmly again.

Tie the rubber band. Stick one end of the rubber band to the cardboard cut out. The rubber band needs to be taped on both sides of the axle. For powering the car wrap the loose end of the rubber band around the catch. While you wrap up the rubber band around the axle, rotate the axle several times and when the rubber band will unwrap it will impel the car to move forward.

This is the easiest way you can make a rubber band propeller car. These are the simplest self propelled cars that can be made at home. Plus the material needed to make it is readily available at your home. You need not buy something specially for making this type of car. Once you make it your kids will love playing with it and if you have grown up kids they can make it themselves and enjoy!
