About Rubber

Rubber products were first made feasible by a process called vulcanization. Essentially, the vulcanization process cross-links rubber molecules with sulfur atoms or other linking materials. This causes the rubber to become harder, sturdier and more resilient. The rubber transforms into a smooth and durable material, although the flexibility and heat resistance of this material really depends on the number of sulfur atoms that links with the rubber molecules.

Although millions of tons of vulcanized rubber are still used today, the common form of rubber is made from synthetic rubber. Polymerizing, or linking, different monomers typically make artificially fabricated rubber. The bulk of natural latex rubber is Isoprene polymers. Nonetheless, using alternative substances enables manufacturers to produce rubber with properties different than those of natural rubber.

Products now created from natural and synthetic rubber include floor mats, bracelets, bands and more. In addition, virtually all industries rely on rubber goods.
